LIFE
Recently I found this website, Scandinavia Standard, where they share the 30 useful websites for surviving and thriving in Denmark. It’s so useful. I have already been using quite a few of them when I found this. And those I didn’t know are also very handy. 🙂

As an expat, you will find it quite difficult to meet new friends in Denmark unless you are a student. It is a quite closed society in terms of social circles. Even for Danes, it’s difficult to make new friends in different cities. We will talk about it some other time why it’s so difficult to make friends with Danes.
But anyway, only because it’s difficult to make friends, we can’t stay being alone and lonely. Check out meetup groups around you. There are some active meetup groups in near Copenhagen regions.
SoSo(So Sophisticated) is one of the most popular one. Personally I like it the most among others. It’s a cocktail socializing group. And for the people need some more booze and moves, the organizers recently have expanded the activities from cocktails only to cocktails+club parties for some occasions. There are more nice and active groups based on activities, genders, interests and many more!
There’s another social network you must check out. InterNations! Once or twice a month, they organize an official event mostly in independent bars or bars in hotels. There are several activity groups. But to join activity groups you should be an albatross member with membership fees. I only participate in the official events. It’s the biggest expat network in Copenhagen. There’s no official statistics for that, but once you join in and see what’s like, then you will tell the same that it’s the biggest.

There are many websites provide restaurants info. I will introduce restaurants where I have covered personally later. Here are the sites where you can find those infos.
News
It’s hard to find English news in Denmark though nearly every Danes can speak English fluently. It dues to low profitability of publishing news in English, and it’s pretty much understandable considering Danish small population of 5.6 million. Luckily Google translate works quite well from Danish to English. There are some news translated in English by the news providers but they are not enough. DR is a Danish national TV broadcasting company and it offers some news in English as well.

Politiken is a newspaper with a conservative point of view. It also offers some news in English.

Jyllands Posten is a newspaper with a progressive point of view. It also offers some news in English. Politiken and Jyllands Posten are the two biggest newspaper companies in Denmark. I was told that Politiken is selling slightly more than JP but the difference is negligible.

Berlingske and Børsen are newspapers more focused on businesses and industries. They don’t provide any English articles which is sad, but we always have our good friend, Google Translate. 🙂

최근에 ‘스칸디나비아 스탠다드’라는 사이트를 발견했어요. 여기에 소개된 ‘덴마크에서 살아남고 잘 살기위한 30개의 유용한 웹사이트’ 포스트는 정말 유용해요. 저도 이미 그중 상당 부분을 사용하고 있었는데, 몰랐던 다른 사이트도 참 편리하더군요.

외국인으로서 덴마크에 살면서 어려운 점 중 하나는 학생이 아닌 이상 친구 만들기가 어렵다는 것이에요. 덴마크 소셜 서클은 매우 폐쇄적이에요. 물론 외국인이라서 그런 건 아니고, 덴마크인도 다른 도시로 이주하면 마주하는 문제입니다. 왜 덴마크인과 친구가 되는게 어려운 지는 나중에 따로 다루려고 해요.
친구 만드는게 어렵다고 해서 혼자서 외롭게 지낼 수는 없죠. 주변의 밋업그룹을 찾아보세요. 코펜하겐 인근에 많은 밋업 그룹이 활동하고 있어요.
쏘쏘(SoSo, So Sophisticated)는 가장 인기있는 밋업 그룹 중 하나입니다. 개인적으로 가장 좋아하기도 하고요. 칵테일 소셜라이징 그룹인데, 술과 춤에 고픈 이들을 위해 운영자가 최근에 클럽 파티를 추가했어요. 페이스북에서도 쏘쏘를 찾아보실 수 있어요. (https://www.facebook.com/groups/sosococktails/)
쏘쏘 말고도 활동이나, 성별, 취미 등을 중심으로 한 다양한 밋업 그룹이 있으니, 찾아보세요!
밋업 말고도 꼭 찾아봐야 할 소셜 네트워크가 또 있어요. 바로 인터네이션입니다! 한달에 한번 또는 두번 정도 공식 이벤트가 있는데 주로 일반 바나 호텔 바에서 열려요. 그리고 하부로 활동 그룹들이 있는데, 이 활동 그룹에 참여하기 위해서는 유료 회원이 되어야 한답니다. 예전엔 멤버였는데, 그냥 이제는 공식 모임만 참가하고 있어요. 인터네이션은 코펜하겐에서 가장 큰 인터내셔널 모임이에요. 공식 통계는 없지만, 다른 밋업 그룹과 인터네이션 모임에 참여해보면 아, 그렇구나 하고 바로 알 수 있답니다.
레스토랑
레스토랑 정보를 다루는 많은 웹사이트가 있는데요, 제가 개인적으로 가본 곳은 나중에 따로 다루려고 해요. 여기엔 그중에서 제가 괜찮다고 생각한 사이트를 소개합니다.
뉴스
덴마크에서 영어 뉴스를 찾기는 어려워요. 거의 모든 덴마크인이 영어를 유창하게 하는 걸 생각하면 좀 의외인데요, 그렇지만 덴마크 인구가 560만에 불과한 것을 고려하면 영어 뉴스를 발간하는 게 채산성이 안맞겠죠. 다행히 덴마크어-영어 구글 번역이 잘 되서 덴마크어 뉴스를 이해하는데 큰 어려움은 없어요. 단위 등이 좀 잘못 번역되는 경우는 있으니, 이점은 유의하세요. 일부 영어뉴스가 발행되는 언론이 있습니다만, 그걸로는 충분하지 않으니 구글 번역이나 프랭커를 이용하세요. 율란스포슨(Jyllands Posten)은 진보 신문입니다. 여기도 영어뉴스를 약간 제공하는데, 폴리티켄보다는 많이 제공해요. 폴리티켄과 율란스포슨은 덴마크 양대 일간신문사입니다. 폴리티켄이 1위 신문이라고는 하나 거의 둘 간의 차이는 없다고 들었어요. 발행부수 공식 통계는 잘 모르겠네요.

베어링스커(Berlingske)와 뵈어슨(Børsen)은 경제신문입니다. 슬프게도 영어 기사는 제공하지 않지만, 다행히 우리에겐 구글번역이라는 친구가 있죠. 🙂
